3 Family-Friendly Winter Events This Weekend 12/5&12/6/2020

If you’re looking for a reason to get out of the house over the next couple of weekends, you’re in luck. There are so many fun and family-friendly winter events happening across the Midlands of South Carolina.

Elgin Catfish Stomp & Toy Round Up

This Saturday from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM, enjoy some delicious catfish while participating in a good cause. Located at Potter Community Park in Elgin. Potter Community Park is at the corner of Main St. and Greenhill Rd. which is conveniently located off of I20.

Sadly, the coronavirus pandemic is still ongoing. With that in mind, the organizers of the event assure patrons that “precautionary measures [are] being taken for COVID.” While this is an outdoor event, face coverings are “highly encouraged.” Additionally, the event’s Facebook Page recommends social distancing “when possible.”

Some highlights of this event are food trucks and the famous catfish stew and fried fish. If you’re looking for catfish stew or fried fish, it can can be found under the picnic shelter. Additionally, face-to-face and drive-thru service is available.

Notably, all of this is a for a good cause. All proceeds benefit the Elgin Police Departments Toy Roundup and Caring Hands Foundation.

2020 Lights of Lugoff Parade

After spending the day eating great food, stick around to see the holiday lights from the Lights of Lugoff Parade. This event starts at 8:30 PM. From the looks of the event’s website, the hosts of this event are excited about this event. They recognize that 2020 is a challenging year, but they’ve montoried “developments related to the current health emergency.” Additionally, “all decisions regarding the 2020 Christmas Parade [were] made in compliance with current CDC and DHEC recommendations.”

The parade route begins at the BP Station in Lugoff and proceeds down US Highway #1 South and turns right on to 24. If you’re planning on being in the area, keep in mind that both lanes of Highway #1 will be closed off beginning at 5:45 PM.

Mommy Market in Lexington, South Carolina

If you’re looking for something low-key to do Sunday, December 6th, be sure to check out the Holiday Market, By Moms, For Moms. The event kicks off at 1 PM at 114 N Church St., Lexington, SC 29072-2808. The hosts of the event recommend getting there early to get good parking. Which is wise, since the Lexington Snowball Christmas Parade starts at 3:30 PM.

The mission of this holiday market is to support local moms from the community. The event’s Facebook Page showcases that “all vendors are owned and operated by women and/or serve women/mothers, in some capacity. The Holiday Market is sponsored by Mom+me Strong LLC. Their mission is “to support women in all stages and phases whether it’s physical, e, emotional, or mental.”
