In August CBS affiliate News 19 reports that due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic, Carowinds would remain closed for the remainder of the 2020 season. However, this week Carowinds announces that they’re opening up for a limited time for their The Taste of the Season event.
Shockingly, in addition to announcing the amusement park would be closed until 2021, park officials also announces they will debut two new rides when they do open. Pat Jones, Carowinds vice president and general manager says, “The safety of our guests and associates is always our top priority. Although we have done our due diligence in developing a comprehensive safety plan in accordance with industry and public health standards, the continued uncertainty in our region brought by COVID-19 leads us to the difficult yet responsible decision to keep the park closed for the rest of the year.”
In an exciting turn of events, on October 28th New19 reports that Carowinds will reopen briefly during the 2020 holiday season. The event is called Carowinds Taste of the Season: An Outdo Holiday Experience. The event runs November 21 through December 20th. Unlike events before, advance reservations are required. Luckily for Season Passholders reservations open on November 9th. Additionally, single-day ticket sales begin on November 11th.
Currently, there are limited details about the event. However, patrons can expect sweet treats and savory snacks. Furthermore, live shows, rides, and festivities will be present througout the park. It is anticipated that more details will be released on November 9th.
In a statement, Jones says reiterates the importance of the safety of Carowinds guests and associates. Additionally, Jones points out that thier “health and safety protocols align with CDC guidance, along with our state and local government officials.” Jones also says, “We couldn’t be more ready and excited to welcome guests back to the park for this wonderful holiday celebration.”
With the health and safety of Carowinds guests and associates at utmost importance, Carowinds implements several safety precautions. For example, visitors will be required to complete an online health screening 24 hours before going to the park. In addition, there will temperature screenings at the gate. In conjunction with mandatory masks for guests and employees, park officials plan to add social distancing markers. Ideally, the social distancing markers will help space visitors while they are standing in line.
Below is a video that shows the changes made by the park in anticipation of reopening for The Taste of the Season.
Seemingly The Taste of the Season event is in lieu of Carowinds annual Winterfest and the New Year’s Eve countdown celebration. Historically, Winterfest brings thousands of visitors to the amusement park. Also, there is currently no word on if the New Year’s Eve countdown celebration will take place this year. At this time, News19 reports that both events are canceled due to COVID-19.
