3 Reasons Small Businesses Benefit the Consumer

Shopping small businesses have a greater impact than just support of the owner. The overall local impact on the economy not only fuels growth, but it harnesses the ability to provide the consumer with original goods, handmade products, superior quality, and/or exceptional trusted services that last with generations of family ownership.

Unique Locally Made Products

Finding your favorite local shop has it perks. Whether they are brick and mortar places or online websites, small  business shopping brings out the creativity and individuality in the buyer as well as the seller. Finding paintings, local art, original cosmetics, jewelry, soaps, candles and more give the consumer bragging rights over owning a one-of-a-kind item.  With the number of options that are presented to the consumer through smaller operations, often the result is the consumer loving their new items so much they are return or long lasting customers. Moreover, these products are often far superior in their quality because the seller takes pride in what they are offering; it becomes an extension of themselves.

Superior Reliable Services and Customer Service

More often than not, the reason someone starts a small business is because they had a horrible experience with a big business. The importance of offering a better experience for the consumer becomes the center of their operation. This is truly a benefit to the consumer and the owner. People are wiling to pay for quality and an easy transaction. Not only do these small service businesses provide quality: they provide trust and peace of mind.

Family Owned Businesses Employ Mama, Papa and the Kids-Good News for You!

It is so comforting to have a conversation with the owner of a business and hear them talk about how they have been doing what they do for years and their family has been providing the same services for generations. Some businesses have the entire family involved down to the grandchildren. This is a blessing to the consumer. If you have a complaint or need help with something there is not this ridiculous “hold please” or “press one” for customer service: you go straight to the source. Not only does this cut down on aggravating situations that require calling customer service, the owner is more likely to make it right and learn from the error, thus benefiting both parties.

Another plus, is that the owner is most of the time a well known person in the community. They have sponsored a local youth sports team, been involved with a local event or they are your neighbor! It pays to have connections and small businesses forge relationships throughout their local and surrounding areas.

There are numerous reasons to shop small, these are just a few. Getting lost at the same large stores does not come close to the warm welcoming environment that you will come to adore at a smaller establishment. If you believe that price is holding you back from using a small business, consider the above as a reason to start seeking them first, before you turn to larger companies.
